600th Verified Layout!

Going into our 5th year online, the Briggs Unknown Fuzz has become the site's 600th verified layout, thanks to Neil for verifying that one.

When I did the first 100th Verified Layout! post I didn't have any intention of doing them every 100.  I was just amazed that we'd got it up to 100 and so wanted to post something to thank everyone.  When it got to 200 I thought I should do the same thing again as a tongue-in-cheek parody, and so it has gone on since then. Thanks for that goes to you all for building and verifying these layouts, and discussing them to make this what is a great effect building community.  Seriously you are a great bunch and it's been a pleasure getting to know you all over the years.

Special thanks to Miro from myself and I'm sure also from everyone else who enjoys his layouts.  He really has brought a new dimension to the blog, his work is always top notch (I doubt I could do most of his layouts as compact and neat as he makes them) and he has contributed a lot more than I have this year (and probably last year too).  So thanks mate, you're a star.

So one year is about to finish and a new one begin.  Let's see how long we can keep the parody going and how quickly we can get to 700 (Miro's turn), even if we are running out of suitable schemes :o)

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you all

  7. Don`t even attempt to try to play down the HUGE part that you and Miro have played in this. The fact there are 639 layouts here is nothing short of astonishing, these layouts have to be published before they can be verified and the time and effort you guys have put into it, not to mention the time you have both spent advising and helping debugging is much appreciated by everyone here. I know I`m speaking for more than myself when I say that this blog is about more than just getting layouts to build, I (and I`m sure there are loads more) have been able to learn how these circuits work and are now able to tackle our own layouts which has led to a fantastic contributions sub section (which I need to remember to publish a couple of my own doh). So a big thank you to you both and keep it up in 2014 :-)

Oh, and as for the suitable schemes, remember you promised when the time came you would start doing bigger layouts, I`ve got 50 BB boxes sitting here waiting ;-)

    1. Thanks to all you guys for your overwhelming support. Just checked my verified folder and there's 204 layout in there, which means that Mark has to have at least 396 verfied in his :)

About the bigger ones.. I'm still going to stick with 21 columns wide with 28 rows ar max. Even when there are more than 5 pots on the schematic. Those boards are easier to fit in 1590BB in that size as well as they leave the possibility open for fitting real big designs in 1590B. Other, and probably the biggest reason i personally don't like the massively big layouts is that they take a few days to build with massive amount of components. If they don't work, then the debugging process may be even lenghtier. While i don't feel too bad about defunct layout with 10-50 components someone wastes on it, it would be quite a different thing for 200+ component boards. In worst case the defunct layout needs to be completely redrawn, so those 200+ components will go to waste. That's a responsibility i don't want to take on as i tend to stress (the f out) out too easily anyway.

As some of you might have noticed, a year ago i had a lenghty pile of doable, undone schematics just waiting around. So the beginning of 2013 was like was. Now, the doable ones are simply running low. Which is the biggest reason for the couple of slow months we just had. The usefulless of the forum's request section got a bit compromised due to people requesting schematics. Due to that i haven't visited that subsection in a while. I will flush the old request section and start a new one with two subsections. Soon.

Damn. It's only been a little two years since i started lurking on this page and about 13 months since i've been on the wagon. It's been a very pleasant ride and i plan to keep it that way.

In addition to a new usable/helpful request section on the forum we need just a couple of other things. The newbie build giude that explains everything. That one is really needed. If anyone is up for doing a complete photoessay on simple "first build" of something like SHO, we'd publish it right away.

Aww. I'm mixing up my thoughts already. Plus this must be the longest comment i've written in ages :)

This blog gives me a lot more than you know. Let's give something to Mark too - keep clicking those add banners!
One more time. That you all!

  11. I totally agree with everyone else's sentiments. Congrats, and I know that I would not have taken up this hobby, and began my journey into effects pedal construction, and creation if it weren't for finding this site, and the support I have found here.

  12. Thank you Mark and Miro, this blog is truly inspiring. The quality and quantity of the layouts are amazing, I feel like a kid in a candy store and the candy is free, all you can eat.

  15. Well it's all been said but I wouldn't know anything if it wasn't explained so well here. I sponge info from this page for a good month before attempting a build. Now I'm two months into building and so many more to go. I've found something that really suits how my head works and liberates me in some cheesy way I guess. Everyday I'm not building, I'm reading this blog. Cheers guys! Wish I would of found this when it all started!

  19. Thank you guys. I only stumbled on this site a couple of months ago - I've been missing out on so much! I bought (and still have) loads of pedals, but trying (operative word) to build your own, sort it, find components and then make it look ok is much more satisfying.

The number of layouts is outstanding, and takes a lot of work ad commitment - well doe to you.

The help and advice following each layout is also awesome - well done and thanks to all.

    Long may this site continue
